Head of Mokha Center: U.S. Policy in Yemen Focuses on Managing Threats, Not Resolving Them
Mokha – Exclusive
The Head of the Mokha Center for Strategic Studies ,Ateq Jarallah, stated that U.S. policy in Yemen revolves around three central priorities: safeguarding Israel’s security, ensuring the safety of maritime routes and energy supplies, and containing the expanding influence of Russia and China in the region.
In an interview broadcasted by Belqees Tv, Jarallah explained that recent U.S. airstrikes on Houthi targets were a direct reaction to the group nearing a breach of these strategic boundaries—particularly following their reported acquisition of hypersonic missiles from Russia.
He noted that the intended goals of these strikes were to degrade the Houthis’ military capacity, create internal divisions, and disrupt communications among their leadership. However, he assessed that progress toward these goals has been minimal. He attributed the limited impact to poor intelligence, insufficient coordination with regional allies, and an apparent lack of genuine U.S. intent to decisively end the group’s influence.
On the domestic front, Jarallah urged Yemeni factions to unite, establish a joint military operations command, and form a committee to mobilize international and political support for the effort to reclaim state authority. He warned that prolonging the current state of inaction risks deepening national exhaustion and social fragmentation, ultimately posing a serious threat to both Gulf security and regional stability.
His remarks follow the suspension of U.S. airstrikes on the Houthis, which began in mid-March and had targeted key sites in Sana’a, Hodeidah, and Sa’dah in a series of focused aerial operations.
